What is the ASA Cycle?

The ASA cycle is a person-centered framework tool for clinical settings to help clients integrate new information in a way that builds trust and rapport. The ASA cycle can be used repeatedly throughout a visit.

Affirm/Acknowledge

When interacting with a patient, before addressing concerns, first acknowledge and validate what they said.

Share Content/Information

Sharing relevant information in a person centered way allows patients to make informed decisions about their own bodies.

Ask a Question

By asking a follow up question after providing patients with information, providers can make sure new information has been understood.
